Hello:
Is this advertisment( pictures) manipulative propaganda? I see some appeal to fear there, but I get confuse when fear is related to something that is kind of bad as smoke.

It looks like an appeal to fear. <smile> Just because something is propaganda doesn’t mean it’s bad.
Hello Nathanial,?
Thank you. But, how we will know when something is “simple propaganda” or ??“manipulative propaganda”.?
I think I am confuse, I was thinking that appeal to fear, etc, are techniques of ?manipulative propaganda (which is bad!, oops! I do not want enter in the philosophic ?dilemma of good and bad
)?
Please, help me to go out the confusion,
Bye, bye
Perla,
I know you addressed the following quote to Nathaniel.

If I may step in, here is an article on the uses of propaganda, and in particular the ‘techniques’ propaganda employs to get a message across.
An appeal to fear in propaganda seeks to sway people toward, or away from something by creating a sense of anxiety, or dread. Or, directly from the Wikipedia article:
Appeals to fear seek to build support by instilling anxieties and panic in the general population, for example, Joseph Goebbels exploited Theodore Kaufman’s Germany Must Perish! to claim that the Allies sought the extermination of the German people.
I hope this helps.
Hello Christian,
Thank you for your answer.
Just to be sure,
Does Appeal to Fear a manipulative propaganda technique?
Is the manipulative propaganda bad?
Bye, bye

Propaganda itself is manipulation. It’s visual, or auditory, or visuo-auditory manipulation. Given that, yes, propagandizing via an appeal to fear is a technique. One too often employed, in my opinion.
Is the manipulative propaganda bad?
Well, that all depends on its use. Using propaganda to, say, stop or slow human trafficking would seem to me to be a good use of manipulation. However, using propaganda to instill irrational fears in a population (e.g., Ku Klux Klan spreading their racist garbage and scaring people into thinking they might be right) is bad.
Thank you Christian,?
This answers my question:?
?
Propaganda itself is manipulation. ??
?
In the past years I had being victim of many appeal to fear style propaganda, and until ?now all what they advertisement was lie. So, I am very inclined to believe that when ?somebody use “appeal to fear” to sell his ideas is because they are not telling the true.?
I am investigation about smoking. There is much statistic information that link smoke ?with health issues. Until now all smokers I know are healthy people, and even when I ?worked in a Life Insurance Company (giving service to the medical insurance) I never ?saw a case of somebody getting sick because the cigar. I do not smoke, but I must admit ?that my opinion in reference to smoke (as my opinion in reference Global Warming, ?Whole Words, Soft Drinks, Candies for Young Children, and other) has being modeled ?only based in the appeal to fear style propaganda. So I am investigating the cigar issue in ?deep.?
By the way, while investigation the manipulative propaganda, I found the next link:?
