Mississippi rock group 3 Doors Down has great potential, and is alreading starting to live up to it. Lead singer Brad Arnold's vocals combine with catchy guitar work, and the songwriting, while sometimes falling into what I call Typewriter Syndrome (cool-sounding phrases strung together without real connection) needs only a little more maturity to fall into place.
Away from the Sun is, as the name suggests, a dark album. Arnold and company sing about how fast life moves, the pressure of changes, and various doubts. But that's not necessarily a bad thing. David's psalms often sound a lot less like "Jesus Wants Me For a Sunbeam" and more like "Boulevard of Broken Dreams." Part of looking at life biblically is looking at life realistically. And life, in Arnold's words, is "no bed of nails / But they're not roses just the same."
